Grace, charm, wit and intelligence in a beautiful sexy women is hard to find. You usually get too much of an extreme, but never the package. I met Ava the same time I met Sandra, as both of them are friends and were about to enter the Miss Universe Canada 2010 contest.

The phrase ‘Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ was put to the test for me as I started shooting Ava. Her radiant looks and sexy attitude behind the lens started to shine and we started to have fun. Overall, she was a complete joy to work with. No games. No BS. All real. No nonsense. That is who Ava is to me, but then again all that was in one day. I believe there is way more to this women as I tried to peel the layers off to find out more…

Raaj Kapur Brar: You recently were in Miss Universe 2010 in Canada. Why did you decide to join? How was the experience? And what did you learn?

Ava Ferdowsmakan: I decided to join Miss Universe Canada because I’ve always been a very well rounded individual and I knew that I could relate and be able to represent not only the women in Canada but everyone. I also wanted to bring attention to the foundation I’d like to start one day dedicated to cancer patients and their families, therefore I thought this would be a great stepping stone towards my goal. The experience by far was one of the greatest in my life, I learned so many things about myself that I never thought possible.

RKB: Where did you grow up?

AF: I grew up in the town I still live in, Richmond Hill.

RKB: Is modeling or acting a passion or something you are thinking about seriously?

AF: Modeling and acting are passions of mine, a hobby since I’ve been 13 years old. I actually study nothing related to that field. I’d like to get my BSc in 2 years and hopefully get into a prestigious medical school.

RKB: What role did your parents play in your life? How did that change you?

AF: Since I am an only child, my parents have played every role in the book. They’ve been my brother, sister, cousin, mom and dad all in one. I’ve always been very close to both of my parents because we are a small family and without their endless and continuous support along with their unconditional love, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

RKB: Is Love overrated?

AF: Love can never get overrated. The word “love” and “overrated” shouldn’t even be in a sentence together. The feeling is unexplainable and irreplaceable.

RKB: Have you ever been swept off your feet in a relationship?

AF: I think every girl has a story of a guy sweeping them off their feet – especiallly when you least expect it, it catches you off guard, and you just have no more control over the situation.

RKB: What inspires you in life?

AF: My inspiration is people. People that not only have goals, aspirations, and dreams but follow through and have set out plans towards actually achieving it all.

RKB: Who are your public figure role models? And why?

AF: I really look up to Jennifer Aniston. This woman is 40 years old, has one of the fittest bodies in Hollywood, and even though she got out of a very hard divorce, she is back more beautiful and confident as ever. Her poise, grace and class can be seen through cameras every time she is on television. I admire her tremendously.

RKB: What life has taught you that other women can learn from you is…?

AF: Everything happens for a reason. Even the worst parts of your life that you have experienced, have happened to you to make you a better and stronger person. Don’t ever doubt yourself, because it is only you at the end of the day that knows the potential you contain to be the best that you can be.

RKB: Before you die, you want to do at least these three things?

AF: Skydive, see all the wonders of the world, and get married perhaps with children.
